Remembering that gloves wear out as much due to abrasion as they do to burning, a leather palm is much more resistant to abrasion than a woven fabric. While these are not good for handling hot glass itself, they are great for handling items that are warm-to-hot, such as opening furnace doors, using ladles, raking within the kiln, etc. In addition, they have an aluminized backing to reflect heat away when you are working close to the heat source.
Please note that you should not touch hot glass with these, as the leather will burn at these temperatures, and the glass will stick to the aluminized back! Also, please remember to shut off the electricty to your kiln before reaching in!
