Nortel Manufacturing has been one of the leading manufacturers of torches since 1967. Their Minor Burner has long been the most popular burner for bead makers.
Some manufacturers make torches with independently controllable inner/outer flames. While quite useful, these torches are very expensive to make. Nortel has chosen a different way to offer the same controllability: mount a smaller, independant burner on top of their large torches. This provides the same ability to use a smaller, pinpoint flame, and still have a large hot flame when needed. It should be noted that the two different burners are not used at the same time, due to the close proximity to one another.

This surface mix torch has seven (7) fuel ports. The Minor Burner has long been the most popular torch because of its size and economic price. It is excellent for making beads, marbles, and small sculptural work. Complete with 1/4" barbed hose fittings.

The Mid Range Plus

This surface mix torch is Nortel's 'middle range' torch. The large, round, twenty-two (22) fuel port burner face produces a much larger, hotter flame than the smaller Minor Burner, while not being so large as to be unusable. This large burner can be used for both soft glass and borosilicate.
Mounted just above the main burner is an independently controlled Minor Burner. This gives you a smaller, pinpoint flame for your detail work.
Complete with 5/16" barbed hose fittings.

The Red Max

This surface mix torch is Nortel's latest design, replacing the older Major Burner. The Red Max has a large, round, forty-four (44) fuel port burner face. This round face design produces a much more forceful flame than the square burner face on the Major Burner, and tends to require much less cleaning.
Mounted just above the main burner is an independently controlled 'top fire' torch. This gives you a smaller, pinpoint flame for your detail work. You have your choice of the surface mix Minor Burner (shown above) or a pre-mix burner.
