In the Japanese style of lampworking, a piece of cane is often attached warm to the hot bead. Then, the cane is cut to the required length using cutters like these.
A unique feature of these cutters is that the cutting edge is mounted at an angle to the handles. This offers a more comfortable grip, a better line of sight, and keeps your hand away from the hot glass when assembling your piece.
These cutters are also great for cutting regular cane and murrini.
*Note* The carbide cutting edges do not close completely. If they did actually touch when closed, the carbide cutting edges could crack and chip. Because of this, these cutters are not suitable for cutting stringer or cane smaller than about 1.5mm in diameter.
There had been complaints that the red molded handles could slip, so these have recently been redesigned to have a new green foam rubber grip. These grips are molded to the tool, and can not slip. Plus, the added texture of the foam makes the tools less likely to slip in your hands.
